Uborka!

February 2004 Post of the Month

Ladies and Gentlemen, I welcome you once again on a brisk, starlit night, to tha magnificent Uborka Palace, which really, really isn't a seedy cinema just off Soho, with shabby velvet seats.

No, no, no, this is glamour, this is sophistimacation of the highest order. We are here this evening to present the ultra-prestigious Post Of The Month award, sought after by the creme de la creme of the blogerati, who slaver for it like packs of hungry wolves who haven't eaten since elevenses.

Tonight, my esteemed guests, I am proud to introduce this month's panel, featuring myself and the lovely Pete, who is as always turned out beautifully, and does he not indeed have a nice arse, as previously discussed? Assisting Pete and myself this month, are not one but two of the blogosphere's brightest stars, who fought hand and tooth for the January prize, but in the end were forced to share, as there was nothing to be chosen between the sheer brilliance of each of their nominated posts: The ever-charming Acerbia D, and the faultlessly elegant Vaughan.

We have all spent many long days poring over this month's select selection of nominees, and in a nail-biting finish, the voting is over and we are able to announce, with enormous glee, that the winner, for February 2004, is the beautiful krissa, with Past Progressive.

Those who are playing the MikeDex game, please be so good as to link to krissa's post in the next 24 hours. Thank you.

And now that the serious business of the evening is completed, we can merrily drink champagne until the sun comes up, accompanied by the fruits of our hearts' desire, and formed into jelly as requested by greenfairy, one of the gracious runners up.

Our waiting staff are on hand to serve the sparkling elixir of celebration to all those who grace the Uborka Palace with their presence - but legal stuff only I'm afraid, Gordon.

Lyle and Stuart are looking simply delicious in those flimsy ballgowns. Those long flouncy skirts really do flatter your hips, dears. Hm, perhaps, like Mark, I have had a little too much champagne already...

Already Graybo is slurring his speech, and qB is dropping the most picturesque of typos. Robin is starting the onion champagne, which could be interesting... or it could not.

And as if we needed reasons to celebrate, the whole 'sphere is resounding today with the fabulous news that Mike is back. It's as if we all clapped our hands to affirm our belief in fairies. And there's a metaphor that said more than I meant it to. 'Nother glass, please...

I have noticed that Sorsha is sitting very quietly, not volunteering to guest post. Perhaps a little more of the champers will persuade her that qB and I really do need her help.

Did I miss anyone? It's very likely; I'm quite pissed.

Think I'll have a little lie-down now.

...Pete?

Hic.

goddammit - missed out on my bloody beer again

Spengy · March 05, 2004 19:32

Yeah? I wasn't even served.... farewell parties are rubbish.

Doctor Pockless (Revisited) · March 05, 2004 21:23

Arg damn I went home early on Friday and didn't have a chance to link to Krissa's in time...does it work if I do it now?

Stuart · March 08, 2004 09:46

That MikeDex game has flopped a bit, hasn't it? A check of Blogdex this morning suggests that NO registered blogs have linked to Krissa's winning post, and a check of Technorati suggests that, in fact, only Speaking As A Parent has linked, a mere 5 hours ago.

My theory: as the winner wasn't announced until 16:00 on Friday afternoon, with a request to link within 24 hours, two things will have happened:

a) Nobody got round to linking on Friday afternoon.

b) Everybody came back after the weekend and thought "oops, I've missed the 24 hour deadline". And therefore didn't link today either.

My suggestion: another big shout-out. Come on! We can do this!

(BTW, I intend to link this afternoon.)

mike · March 08, 2004 13:28

/me goes to do it
