Chaos in the skies!

Nothing to do with ash clouds, really; I just liked the mega-panic headline describing the empty skies as chaotic. I like the tranquility.

Part of me wonders what the world would be like with no more air travel. Or a vast reduction in the numbers of people flying. Somewhere I read meteorologists (or volcanologists, I forget which) saying that this could go on for 20 years. Anecdotally I hear people saying oh, we’re not flying, of course, when talking about their holiday plans. Would people stop flying? Is the world small enough, and connected enough, for flying to go out of fashion?

Having said that, we did manage to fit in a long weekend in Barcelona, between bursts of ash-based groundings. It rained, mainly. It was Bernard’s first time on an aeroplane, and he squealed with delight: faster faster faster up UP AND AWAY! He was less enamoured by the puddles of Barcelona.

Back home I’m waiting for my P60 so I can tot up the year and see if, financially speaking, this whole working-as-a-breastfeeding-counsellor thing has really paid off. It’s the anniversary of my license to practice.
