It’s not just time, it’s also inclination

I would hardly call it a hiatus, and I’m not desperate or concerned enough to bore you with the reasons why I don’t write much these days. Any working mothers who are also training to be breastfeeding counsellors and volunteering for various other NCT roles as well as trying to get the occasional wink of sleep will understand that I own the blog, it doesn’t own me.

I do have a long list of things to write about. Most of them will be irrelevant by the time I get round to them. Here’s my list; you can choose which one I should prioritise, if you like:

  • The Eden Project (over a month since I was there)
  • Clan of the Cave Bear (over a month since I read it)
  • Safe Deliveries (nearly a month since I paid for this and wondered whether it was really such a good gift)
  • Bernard walking (a relatively recent development)
  • Having another baby (or not)
  • Mothers’ Rights around the world (something I mean to write for our ditchwater-dull work blog)

I’d like to see “having another baby (or not)”, provided Pete writes a similar piece too. It’s a conversation we’ve been having too, and I’d be interested (i.e. plain bloody nosey) in reading what you two are thinking.

And being a parent and blogger means juggling, and if the blogging ball gets dropped, that’s a better situation than dropping the baby.

  2. Karen says:

Babies bounce, Graybo. Haven’t you discovered that yet?

    Karen
  3. Adrian says:

Karen, Babies bounce, but it’s real hard to get decent spin on them.

    I’d vote with Graybo here.

  4. Hg says:

There’s a clear bias in this list towards things motherly and nurturing, isn’t there?

I’m drawn to the Eden Project (probably the least motherly and nurturing of them all, though I suppose there are plants involved), but really I’m happy to ready anything that you write.

  5. Karen says:

There’s just no getting away from the motherly and nurturing these days; even my piece about Clan of the Cave Bear is largely concerning the pivotal importance of the heroine’s breastfeeding experience. Shame the only readers I have who are motivated enough to comment are blokes! Am I the thinking man’s mum-blogger?

Thank you for your kind words, Mr Hg.

my vote, fwiw: having another baby bernard walking mothers’ rights across the world

also, lots of people drop the blogging ball and don’t have working motherhood as an excuse. so. x

  7. estee says:

oh, i just realised your comments box doesn’t automatically put in break tags. sorry for the mess of the first line above.

  8. Lisa says:

I vote clan of the cave bear followed by having another baby or not. I’m not a man.

  9. Pigwotflies says:

I’m not a man either. I’m always interested in books and I’ve never read Clan of the Cave Bear. And I’d be interested to know what you thought of the Eden Project. I went there on a very wet day this summer and, mostly, loved it.

  10. Hg says:

Is it too late to say: -y ? Probably, but I feel better for having said it.

I just glanced at that phrase below and for a split second thought it was pointing me towards the “full motherly archives”.

  11. Pete says:

I will write a similar piece, one day, maybe. I was hoping to write it before Karen’s went live, so that they could be published simultaneously (without us having seen each others) but I’m not going to have the time.

  12. Karen says:

Further to Pete’s comment above, there is now A Plan. Watch this space. Or a post-sized space above this space. Whatever.

    Karen
  13. graybo says:

Oooo! A plan! Or, should I say "Plan".

Is that a plan to write or a plan for a baby?

  14. Karen says:

    We Plan to Write.

  15. Piggy says:

I’d love to hear about your thoughts on having another baby (or not). I guess it’s just a subject on my mind too. Graybo, I’d love to hear your thoughts too.

I am a little behind, because this debate has clearly moved on a lot, but I would like to read about Bernard’s first steps as well… Very exciting.
