Aw, I'm sorry about the Gina-esque schedule. Best laid plans, mice, men, etc ... I'm sure he'll wise up about feeding in no time, the first few weeks are always an adjustment.

Yay for Bernard!

[...] As Karen has mentioned, he isn’t the most adept feeder in this household. While she busies herself expressing, it tends to fall to me to hold the cup to his lips. Though this is great for father-child bonding, I worry that it is at the expense of the mother-child bonding which is more important right now. I put this to one side - we’ve got to get food into him, and we’ll do whatever is necessary in order to accomplish this. [...]

I seem to recall saying something along those lines about nappies... but was greeted by looks of doubt bordering on incredulity. Lovely lovely Bernard. Lovely Pete. Lovely Karen. Lovely nappies :-)

I know exactly what you mean, Graybo. My preconception of nappies was that they would be horrid, smelly experiences, and I would try to force an out-of-body experience just so that I could change the nappy without, y'know, being there.

In the event, they are crucial fact-finding missions. I've become quite adept at performing them solo, which I think is a great relief for Karen.

Sue: what are these diapers of which you speak? Do you mean nappies? :)

K+P(+B): it's amazing how you will find yourself having long conversations on the subject of poo consistency and colour. Even after five months, we still marvel at it ("oooh! look! grey and solid!").

Han and I found the first diaper such a helpless experience that we laughed and laughed and laughed.

Uh, we did not seem to be in the know that meuconium =tar.

And I do find the name Bernard to be very much a cultural name, like * Harry* and Penelope.

Pretty, pretty boy, glad to hear the parent's joy-
