Yesterday we saw the midwife for our 38 weeks appointment, and she told us that the baby’s head is 2/5 engaged, which means it has started to lodge itself in place in my pelvis, ready for descent. It doesn’t give us any more concrete timescale than we already had, but it does confirm what I suspected: that the little fellow is lying lower than before, giving me more breathing space and less bladder area.
It’s all getting rather imminent and real; this little moving creature that lives inside me is going to come out very soon, and then we will be able to work out what the new normal is, and I won’t get so much heartburn, and will be able to sleep comfortably again, even if only for small amounts of time. A few weeks ago I was really quite bored with being pregnant, but now I am just excited and impatient, and almost wishing I was still at work rather than sitting at home waiting for something to happen. I have got everything on my list now, so we’re all ready to roll…
